Dr. Ney J. Rivas
My name is Dr. Ney Rivas. Welcome to Fit, Wealthy, & Wise. I truly hope you are finding our site valuable and of great help on your personal journey. As brief as possible, and hopefully without boring you too much, I would like to share a little about myself. I was born in Boston, MA into a family with one older sister, and a younger brother soon to follow. My mother, Cuban, and father, Nicaraguan, emigrated from their respective countries, met, married, and pushed forward to create a better life for their children.
I moved around a lot as a child. Some of the destinations included West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and eventually Florida . I would reside in Florida for the majority of my life. Adapting to new places was difficult, but ultimately equipped me with crucial skills that I have found handy now as an adult.
Being the middle child provided a unique perspective regarding the dynamics of my family. This resulted in the development of unique observational skills, and a keen sense for recognizing patterns in human behavior. It’s funny what a kid can learn simply by observing the behaviors and actions of others. Till this day, sitting back and observing others interact is something I enjoy; I know, creepy.
Life has taught me to have a deep appreciation for the simpler things. There is a saying that goes “what is most important, is invisible to the eye.” This has held true in my life, and although I may forget from time to time, life always finds a way of reminding me.
My journey has created in me a fascination for the human body, how it works, and what it is capable of. Seven years after graduating high school I earned a B.S in Health Science, and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Andrews University, MI.
Some of my hobbies include playing soccer, tennis, cycling, volleyball, weightlifting, reading, and having deep meaningful conversations with the people I surround myself with. I love to learn, and the more I learn the more alive I feel.
My curiosity and financial situation during, and at the end of my academic career inspired me to dive into the study of finances, health, and human behavior. As it turns out, life comes at you pretty fast after you leave the nest; but you probably already knew that. The most astonishing thing I probably learned from my studies is how close and applicable health, finances, and human behavior are to each other. My studies did not only help me stay in good physical shape throughout seven years of schooling – including 3 rigorous years of graduate school – but also allowed me to set myself up for financial success in the future. The information I was exposed to has helped develop in me new behaviors that have significantly contributed towards maintaining physical, financial, and mental fitness. In a little over a year after graduate school, I went from having a negative net worth to being worth more alive than dead.
Before I knew it, friends and family, even strangers in some cases were asking for my secret. Although I hardly consider it a secret, I found that the information I had access too – the techniques and strategies I practice on a daily basis – were considerably helpful to those I shared it with. There my passion for educating others was born. Teaching simple strategies on how to improve our lives has proved to be increasingly satisfying. I consider myself a student of life, and do not proclaim to know everything. However, I find it extremely rewarding to be able to help and enrich other’s lives with the information I have acquired over the years.
And now here we are. Ashish and I, I mean, Dr. Mesepam and I, partnered up to bring you, and so many others access to information, resources, and clarity pertaining to health, finances, and human behavior. Fit, Wealthy, & Wise was born from our passion to educate, and holistically help others in areas we find to be critical on the journey to self-improvement. At the end of the day, we believe this leads to a happy less stressful life. Whether it is finally taking the first step towards achieving your ideal body weight, developing habits and behaviors that will set you up for success, or reaching financial independence – we are at your service.
